Checking chapter transitions, logical flow, and narrative arc
Ensuring consistent tone, voice, and readability
Verifying claims, statistics, and referenced sources
Final proofreading for grammar, punctuation, and formatting
Overview
After drafting, every Authorio book goes through four sequential editorial passes. Each pass targets a specific layer of quality, progressively transforming your raw draft into a polished, publish-ready manuscript. These passes are what take your book from "good first draft" to "ready to ship" -- turning a weekend of work into what would traditionally take a quarter.
Flow and Structure Pass
The first pass focuses on how your book reads as a connected whole.
- Transitions: Ensures smooth bridges between sections and chapters so the reader never feels lost.
- Logical progression: Verifies that ideas build on each other in a sequence that makes sense.
- Narrative arc: Checks that the book has a clear beginning, developed middle, and satisfying conclusion.
- Pacing: Identifies sections that drag or feel rushed and rebalances them.
Style and Voice Pass
The second pass ensures tonal consistency across the entire manuscript.
- Voice consistency: Confirms that the tone you defined in your vision brief is maintained from Chapter 1 through the final page.
- Audience alignment: Verifies that the language complexity and examples match your target reader.
- Readability: Smooths out awkward phrasing, overly complex sentences, and unclear constructions.
Fact-Check Pass
The third pass reviews claims, statistics, and assertions throughout the book.
- Claims verification: Flags statements that make specific factual claims for review.
- Consistency check: Ensures that data points, names, and references cited in one chapter are not contradicted elsewhere.
- Source awareness: Identifies areas where adding citations or references would strengthen credibility.
Note that AI fact-checking is a valuable safety net, but it does not replace your own subject-matter expertise. Always review flagged items using your professional knowledge.
Grammar and Polish Pass
The final pass handles the mechanical details of clean writing.
- Grammar and syntax: Corrects grammatical errors, subject-verb agreement, and tense consistency.
- Punctuation: Fixes comma usage, hyphenation, and quotation marks.
- Final proofreading: Catches typos, doubled words, and formatting inconsistencies.
Progress Tracking
You can monitor all four passes in real time from your project dashboard. Each pass shows its current status -- queued, in progress, or complete -- so you always know exactly where your manuscript stands in the editorial pipeline.
