The red recording light blinks on. In that instant, the person you were moments ago vanishes.

If this sounds familiar, you are not alone. Camera anxiety affects the vast majority of new creators.

The prefrontal cortex gets flooded by signals from the amygdala — the brain's threat detection center.

Your body cannot distinguish between a camera lens and a thousand staring eyes.

What Themes Control

A theme in Authorio defines the visual appearance of your book's interior pages. This includes typography (fonts for headings and body text), list formatting, media and content block styling, page layout, and overall document styling. Themes ensure that every page of your book has a consistent, professional look without requiring manual formatting of individual elements.

When you select a theme, its settings apply across your entire book. Every heading, paragraph, list, and content block follows the theme's rules automatically.

Accessing the Theme Tab

Open your book in the editor and click the Theme tab at the top of the screen, next to Content and Cover. The Theme tab is where you view and change all styling settings for your book's interior.

The Theme tab has two areas: a settings sidebar on the left and a page grid on the right that shows a bird's-eye view of all your book pages rendered in the current theme.

Theme Settings Sidebar

The left sidebar of the Theme tab displays your current theme name at the top, followed by five settings categories:

Document Styling

Controls the overall visual properties of your book's pages, including background colors, margins, and general page appearance.

Typography

Lets you choose between the four available theme templates -- Inter, Libre, Merriplay, and Cormoville. Each theme applies a complete visual identity including fonts, spacing, and page styling to your book. See Theme Templates for details on each option.

Lists

Controls the formatting of bulleted and numbered lists throughout your book, including indentation, spacing, and marker styles.

Media & Content

Defines how images, stock images, calls to action, and other media blocks appear within your pages.

Layout

Controls structural page properties such as spacing, alignment, and the overall arrangement of content on the page.

How Changes Apply

When you select a new theme template or adjust a setting, the changes apply to your entire book immediately. You do not need to update individual chapters or pages. The editor preview reflects changes in real time, so you can see exactly how your book will look before exporting.

This global approach means you can experiment freely. Try different themes, compare how they look with your content, and settle on the one that best fits your book's subject and audience.
