Drag-and-Drop Reordering

Move blocks within and across your chapters

How to Drag Blocks

Reordering content in Authorio is as simple as dragging a block to a new position. Every block in the editor can be moved using the grip handle that appears when you hover over it.

To move a block:

  1. Hover over the block you want to move.
  2. Locate the grip handle icon (six dots arranged in a vertical pattern) that appears to the left of the block.
  3. Click and hold the grip handle.
  4. Drag the block up or down to your desired position.
  5. Release to drop the block into place.

A visual indicator shows where the block will land as you drag, so you can position it precisely before releasing.

Reordering Within a Chapter

The most common use of drag-and-drop is rearranging blocks within the same chapter. This is useful when you want to restructure your argument, move a blockquote closer to the text it supports, or reposition an image relative to the paragraphs that reference it.

You can move any block type -- paragraphs, headings, images, blockquotes, lists, and calls to action all support drag-and-drop equally. There are no restrictions on where a block can be placed within a chapter.

The Grip Handle Indicator

The grip handle only appears on hover, keeping the editor canvas clean while you read and write. When you are not actively rearranging content, the handles stay hidden so your focus remains on the text.

Alongside the grip handle, you will also see the plus icon for adding new blocks. These two controls together give you full structural control over your content without cluttering the writing surface.

Maintaining Formatting During Moves

When you drag a block to a new position, all formatting is preserved. Bold text stays bold, links remain intact, heading levels are unchanged, and image settings carry over. The block moves exactly as-is -- you never need to reapply formatting after a reorder.

This also applies to blockquotes, lists, and CTA blocks. Their styling and content remain unchanged regardless of where you place them in the chapter.
