What KDP Export Is
The Kindle (KDP) export produces a file formatted to meet Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing requirements. This is the format you need if you plan to publish your book on Amazon's Kindle store. Authorio handles the formatting specifications so your file is ready to upload directly to KDP without additional conversion or manual adjustments.
KDP Compliance
Amazon KDP has specific formatting requirements for e-books published on its platform. The Kindle export from Authorio addresses these by producing a file that includes:
- A properly structured table of contents for Kindle navigation
- Chapter headings formatted for Kindle's internal linking
- Content structured to display correctly across Kindle devices and the Kindle app
- Your book's cover image embedded in the format Amazon expects
This means you can take the exported file and upload it to your KDP dashboard without needing to run it through additional formatting tools.
Uploading to Amazon KDP
Once you have exported your Kindle file from Authorio, the upload process on Amazon's side is straightforward:
- Log in to your KDP dashboard
- Click Create a New Title and select Kindle eBook
- Fill in your book's metadata -- title, author name, description, and keywords
- In the Manuscript section, upload the file exported from Authorio
- In the Cover section, upload your cover image (you can export a standalone cover from Authorio using the Cover Image export)
- Set your pricing and publish
Amazon typically reviews new submissions within 72 hours before your book goes live on the Kindle store.
AI Content Disclosure
Amazon requires authors to disclose whether AI was used in creating their book's content or cover. Since Authorio uses AI in the drafting and editorial process, you should indicate this during the KDP publishing workflow. Amazon's submission form includes a section where you can declare AI-assisted content. Being transparent about AI involvement ensures your listing complies with Amazon's current content guidelines.
Review Amazon's latest policies on AI-generated content before publishing, as their requirements may evolve over time.
Downloading Your Kindle File
Open the export panel, select Kindle (KDP), and click the export button. The file is generated with all your content, formatting, and cover applied. Once ready, it downloads to your device. You can re-export if you make changes to your book before publishing.
