Roles and Permissions

Owner vs Member capabilities and access levels

Updated 2026-02-26

How Roles Work

Every person in an Authorio workspace is assigned one of two roles: Owner or Member. Roles determine what actions a person can take within the workspace, from creating books to managing billing and team membership.

The person who creates the workspace is automatically assigned the Owner role. Everyone invited to the workspace joins as a Member.

Owner Role

The Owner has full access to every feature in the workspace. This includes all book creation capabilities plus administrative control over the workspace itself. Specifically, the Owner can:

  • Create, edit, and delete any book in the workspace
  • Access the full book creation pipeline including drafting, editorial passes, cover design, and export
  • Invite new members and remove existing members
  • Manage workspace settings such as the workspace name
  • Access Billing & usage to view and manage the subscription plan, word budget, and payment details

There is one Owner per workspace. The Owner role cannot be removed, as every workspace requires an active owner.

Member Role

Members have access to the core book creation features of the platform. They can:

  • Create new books and work through the full pipeline — brief, structure, drafting, editorial, design, and export
  • Edit their own books and access books shared within the workspace library
  • Use the block-based editor, cover design studio, and export tools

Members cannot manage billing, invite or remove other team members, or change workspace settings. These administrative functions are reserved for the Owner.
